Half Day Landscape Photography Tours

All our Half Day Photo Tours run for approximately four to four and a half hours, with morning (8:00am) or afternoon (1:00pm) departures. Please allow for this when booking a trip. Each trip includes snacks, nibbles, beverages, airconditioned transport, experienced driver-guide, tailored photography tuition (as required), all activities and fees (as applicable), and of course photographic scenery! HDPL1: Sumner to Godley Head

Our Half day photo tour No.1: Explore and photograph the coastline around the seaside suburb of Sumner, discover the delights of Taylors Mistake, the grandeur of the views from the Godley Head carpark, enjoy a yummy snack and drinks, then finish off with a visit to the harbour-town of Lyttelton before returning to Christchurch city. HDPL2: Lees Valley

Our Half day photo tour No.2: Explore and photograph the Lees Valley are. An isolated, land locked farming community with a long tortuous access road high above the scenic Ashley Gorge. Keep an eye out for the famous “Kiwi Road Block” when sheep and cattle are being moved between paddocks! While we are there, enjoy a yummy snack and drinks, before returning to Christchurch. HDPL3: Porters Pass and Lake Lyndon

Our Half Day Photo Tour No 3: Explore and photograph the landlocked Lake Lyndon, and the area around Porters Pass before crossing the Waimakariri Gorge on our way back to Christchurch city. If time permits we will also stop briefly on the banks of the Waimakariri River just south of the township of Kaiapoi before returning to Christchurch. HDPL4: Lyttelton Harbour/Whakaraupo

Our Half Day Photo Tour No 4: Explore and photograph the scenic, but busy, Lyttelton Harbour/Whakaraupo. We travel through the Lyttelton road tunnel into the harbour-town of Lyttelton itself. Turning right as we exit the tunnel we explore the sleepy harbour side enclaves all the way round the harbour to the township of Diamond Harbour. From there we strike out into the more sparesly populated parts of the harbour shoreline before ending up at Camp Bay. We return via Dyers Pass. Allow approximately 4 hours. View me on YouTube

HDPL5: Dyers Pass to Birdlings Flat

Our Half Day Photo Tour No 5: Explore and Photograph the scenery from the heights of Dyers Pass, stopping briefly at the Sign of the Kiwi Cafe at the top of the pass. We then traverse the top of the hills along the Summit Road enjoying the alternating spectacular views of the Canterbury Plains and the Lyttelton Harbour. Dropping down through Gebbies Pass we then join the Akaroa Rd for the drive into Birdlings Flat, with its sea-cliffs and wind swept and pebble strewn ocean beach. Return via Tai-Tapu. Full Day Landscape Photography Tours

All our Full Day Photo Tours run for approximately 8-12 hours, with departures at either 8:30am, or 6:30am for the longer trips. Please allow for this when booking your trip. All trips include snacks, beverages, full lunch (sample menu available on request), a complimentary glass of NZ wine or beer with your lunch, airconditioned transport, experienced driver-guide, tailored photography tuition (as required), all activities and fees (as applicable), and of course photographic scenery! FDPL1: Aoraki-Mount Cook

Our Full Day Photo Tour No 1: Our Flagship, but also longest trip. Explore and Photograph the scenery through the MacKenzie Basin in South Canterbury as we drive into the Aoraki-Mt Cook National Park. Stops include Lake Tekapo, and Lake Pukaki before arriving in the Aoraki-Mt Cook village in time for lunch at The Hermitage. After lunch we admire and photograph the spectacular views of Aoraki and the surrounding mountainsides – if Aoraki himself permits!. Then if time allows we will stop again at Lake Pukaki and Lake Tekapo on the return trip to Christchurch. View me on YouTube

FDPL2: Kaikoura

Our Full Day Photo Tour No 2: Explore and Photograph the Kaikoura Coastline. A twisting, winding road with spectacular coastal views, cliff faces, road tunnels, oh and did I say New Zealand Fur Seals? Stops include the coastal settlements of Gore Bay, Oaro, and Peketa before arriving in Kaikoura. We explore the coastline as far the Ohau Point lookout before returning to Kaikoura for lunch. After lunch we explore the beach itself, and the Kaikoura peninsula, before heading back towards Christchurch, with final stops at Motunau Beach, and the possibility of wine tasting (additional charges apply) at one of the Waipara Valley vineyards if time permits. FDPL3: Akaroa Harbour

Our Full Day Photo Tour No 3: Explore and Photograph the hills and waters of Lyttelton harbour, before winding our way over the hill from Diamond Harbour to Port Levy and Pigeon Bay, eventually arriving in Akaroa via the sleepy settlement of Duvauchelle. If we’re in luck, and the tide is in on a calm day, then magnificent reflections are the order of the day! Watch out for cruise ships, tourists, and seagulls. We further explore the Akaroa Heads and investigate the stunning sea-cliffs before returning to Akaroa for lunch. After lunch we proceed round the other side of the Akaroa Harbour and explore French Farm and Wainui before heading towards Barry’s Bay for some cheese sampling at Barry’s Bay Cheese – Return via Hilltop and Little River. A last stop to view Lake Ellesmere (if the lake is flat, and the sun is right, wow!) then back to Christchurch. View me on YouTube

FDPL4: Arthur’s Pass in a Day

Our Full Day Photo Tour No 4: Explore and photograph our way through to Arthur’s Pass settlement where we stop for lunch before continuing onto the view the incredible Otira Viaduct, before returning to Christchurch. Stops on the way in include Porters Pass, Lake Lyndon, and Lake Pearson/Moana-Rua before arriving at Klondyke Corner, and shortly thereafter, Arthur’s Pass settlment. On a good day, the views and reflections at Lake Lyndon and Lake Pearson are redolent of mountain vistas and are exquisite. Native flora and fauna abounds too – especially the Kea, NZ’s alpine parrot who loves visitors! If time permits on the return leg, we’ll stop at Sheffield, for one of the famous Sheffield pies, and perhaps view the Waimakariri Gorge!

FDPL5: Lakes and Gorges

Our Full Day Photo Tour No 5: Explore and Photograph our way through to Lakes Camp and Clearwater in the Ashburton Lakes area, with a quick stop to visit the historic Hakatere Station Farmhouses. Backtracking we cross the Rakaia Gorge bridge before veering left into the hills to visit Lake Coleridge nestled in the Southern Alps foothills. We also stop here for a gourmet picnic lunch. Backtracking once again before heading north, we now climb up and over Porters Pass before dropping down the other side to visit the picturesque Lake Lyndon.  On our return to Christchurch we cross the Waimakariri River gorge for a last photo opportunity
