Lake Heron
In the face of a gathering NW storm, we detoured briefly on our way back to Mt Somers from the Ashburton Lakes area, to Lake Heron. Jumping out of the car to pop off a few photos, I nearly got bowled over by the wind, which was doing its best to steam-roller the tussock along the lake shore. Map That Image
Kaikoura Coast (I)
From the Kaikoura Peninsula, on a clear day one is enticed by majestic views across the bay towards the Seaward Kaikoura Ranges. Map This Image
Gathering Storm Clouds
Not far from the Selwyn huts, on the shores of Lake Ellesmere (Te Waihora) I snapped this image of an approaching storm across the farm paddocks. Minutes later we were getting pounded by hail the size of small marbles forcing a hasty retreat. Map That Image
Clouds

Arthurs Pass Storm
In deteriorating weather sunbeams were penetrating the racing clouds as the rain closed in – looking towards Arthurs Pass from Bealey Spur. Map That Image
Arthurs Pass Storm
The further up Bealey Spur I climbed the worse the weather got. This was one of the last before the weather closed in altogether forcing me to turn back. Map That Image
Aoraki-Mt Cook
Having lived at Aoraki-Mt Cook for nearly 6 months, this evocative picture brings back fond memories. Aoraki stands fast in the fading light, a last bastion of granitic defense in the face of an oncoming Nor-West Storm. Map That Image
