Porters Pass
Winter comes early to SH 73 at Porters Pass, largely because of its 930M+ altitude. Map That Image
Mt Sefton
With the summit shielded from the sun by early morning cloud, the middle flanks of Mt Sefton are dramatically light from the side by the rising sun, showing off the enormous ice cliffs that make it so dangerous to climb from the Aoraki-Mt Cook side. Map That Image
Mitre Peak Winter Diamond
Referred to by Rudyard Kipling as the eighth wonder of the world, Milford Sound is the jewel in the crown of New Zealand tourism. Mitre Peak which adorns the Southern wall of the Fiord has a sublime majesty about it, regardless of the season. A favourite memory of a favourite place! Map This Image
Fox Glacier

Fiordland
Looking Northwards across the Lower Hollyford Valley in Fiordland from the Milford Highway. The mountains in the background form a natural barrier between the Fiordland & Mt Aspiring National Parks, around which twists the famous Routeburn Track. Map That Image
Aoraki-Mt Cook
New Zealand’s highest peak; Aoraki / Mt Cook (3,754 M) as seen from The Hermitage Hotel. The first successful ascent was in December 1894. One of New Zealand’s most famous sons, and one of my heroes, the late Sir Edmund Hillary first climbed the mountain in 1948. In 2011 the former South Ridge was renamed the Hillary Ridge in his honour. Map That Image
Aoraki-Mt Cook
Standing in a howling Nor-Wester is no place for children, and I had both with me at the time. With the Mueller Glacier Terminal Lake in the foreground, the walls of the Hooker Glacier guide your eye to the distant, cloud shrouded Aoraki-Mt Cook. Map That Image
Aoraki-Mt Cook
Having lived at Aoraki-Mt Cook for nearly 6 months, this evocative picture brings back fond memories. Aoraki stands fast in the fading light, a last bastion of granitic defense in the face of an oncoming Nor-West Storm. Map That Image
